Vic: Govt to protect box ironbarks

MELBOURNE, Feb 26 AAP - The Victorian government will create four new national parksand a network of lesser reserves to save the state's box ironbark forests.
The plan follows the government's acceptance today of the recommendations of an independentenvironmental inquiry calling for greater protection of the ancient forests.
About 120,000 hectares of new or expanded parks and reserves will be created, subjectto the passing of legislation.
