SA: Plane makes emergency descent
An Ansett airbus had to make an emergency descent after a drop in cabin pressure
on a flight from Perth to Adelaide this morning.
Ansett spokesman GEOFF LYNCH says Ansett flight 82, which left Perth at 5.45am carrying
93 passengers and seven crew, landed safely in Adelaide shortly before 10am.
Mr LYNCH says there was a problem with the system that provides air to the air-conditioning
units of the airbus A320.
He says this resulted in a drop in cabin pressure so the pilot descended the aircraft
to 18,000 feet.
The incident occurred about 400km west of Adelaide.
Mr LYNCH says it was a controlled descent, and there was never any danger.
Engineers are working on the aircraft to fix the fault.
